    MARCH

    March is peak season for Sting Rays off the stunning Poor Knights Islands of New Zealand, which also has strong Whale Shark encounters particularly in the Indian Ocean. And, Coral Spawning and Shark action occur from Australia to the Caribbean.

     

    wshark.jpgMarch sees the start of the three month long Whale shark season in Ningaloo Reef, Australia; with Whale Sharks still in the waters off Christmas Island, and Thailand's Andaman Sea. Whale sharks start to appear on Zanzibar, Tanzania.

     

    The amazing concentration of Manta Rays continues in Yap, Micronesia, with the clear waters of the Western Maldives hosting numerous Manta Rays cleaner and feeding stations.

    And, of course, March is Peak season for sting rays off of Poor Knights islands, near Auckland, on the north Island of New Zealand.


     

    Layang Layang Malaysia hosts Hammerhead sharks this month, with Hammerheads leaving the Mozambique Channel this month, along with Zambezi Sharks. zambezishark.jpg

    Hammerhead, Zambezi, Bull and Tiger Sharks are common at this time on the Protea Banks, South Africa.

     

    It's the end of Green and Loggerhead turtle season on Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia while Olive Ridley and Leatherback turtles start to be seen in Tamarindo Bay, Costa Rica.

     

    coralspawning.jpgMarch sees the Coral Spawning occur on both the Great Barrier and Ningaloo Reefs after the full moon.

    Whale Watching continues in Baja California and Hawaii, with Pilot Whales off of Fiji; Humpback whales off of the Cape Verde Islands.

    Humpback whales continue breeding season on Turks and Caicos islands, and elsewhere in the Caribbean the Humpback whale migration ends at Saba Island.

     

    Yellow Eyed penguins continue their breeding season near Duneiden, New Zealand;

    This is the last month of summer in Antarctica, with ice and snow returning to the Southern Continent once more after four months of warm weather.
