JANUARY
The New Year starts off with continued whale shark encounters in Australia and East Africa, with shark experiences in Mozambique, South Africa and Tahiti. The winter whale watching season continues in Hawaii, and begins in Baja California.
With the ocean calm after the southwest monsoon, Manta Rays are still commonly encountered along the west side of Maldive Atolls, and in Yap, the season continues as well.
Meanwhile in the Caribbean, Eagle Ray encounters continue in the waters off Cozumel, Mexico.
Whale Shark season continues, on Christmas Island, Australia, and in the East African nation of Djibouti, at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. January is the last month to see Whale Sharks off the coast of Kenya.
Hammerhead and Zambezi sharks continues to appear in southern Mozambique, and to the south, divers have a good chance to see Hammerhead, Zambezi, Bull and Tiger Sharks at Protea Banks, South Africa.
Bull Sharks in Cocos, Costa Rica and Malpeno Islands starts in January, and continues for three months, and further south in the Pacific, the Hammerhead season starts at Rangiroa, Tahiti.
Humpback whale season continues in Hawaii; and back on the North American Mainland, the long Whale Watching season starts in Baja, with humpback, fin, minke, brydes, orca and pilot whales.
Green and Loggerhead turtle season continues with hatching eggs in Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia, with the Green and Loggerhead turtle egg laying seasons ends, Queensland.
In the Pacific Ocean, Olive Ridley and Leatherback turtles appear in Tamarindo Bay, Costa Rica, and Pacific Green Turtles travel to the Galapagos for nesting.
In the Caribbean Sea, Humpback migration starts at Saba, and the spawning season continues for grouper in Belize;
Yellow Eyed penguins continue their breeding season near Duneiden, New Zealand, and the summer Antarctica Season continues with numerous whale, seabird, penguins and seal encounters.
