This month, Whale Shark attention shifts to Belize, in the Caribbean, with South Africa hosting numerous big shark species. Whale Watching slows down this month, especially with the closing of Antarctica for the summer season.
Whale Shark season ends on Australia's Christmas Island; Ningaloo Reef; and Thailand's Andaman Sea; with Whale Shark encounters beginning off of Southern Belize in the Caribbean Sea.
Hammerhead, Zambezi, Bull and Tiger Sharks continue off of Protea Banks, South Africa. Meanwhile, Hammerhead season starts in Costa Rica, and offshore, Bull Sharks appear in Cocos and Malpeno Islands.
Leatherback turtles lay eggs on Tobago, sister island of Trinidad in the Caribbean, with Olive Ridley and Leatherback turtles leaving Tamarindo Bay, Costa Rica.
With the Manta season ending on Yap, Manta Rays begin to migrate from the west side of the Maldive Atolls to the eastern sides, following the currents generated by the southwest monsoon.
April is Peak Manta Season on Bali, Indonesia.
Humpback whales migrate past the Cape Verde Islands and Pilot whales continue to swim off of Fiji.
The Whale Watching season ends in Baja California, and in the Hawaiian Islands; and April sees Antarctica closing for the summer season.
